What is an IP address
An IP address is the unique number that identifies a device on the internet. Every phone, laptop, server and router has one, and networks use it to route data to the right place, much like a postal address routes a letter. Two versions are in use today: IPv4 (like 8.8.8.8) and the newer, longer IPv6 (like 2001:4860:4860::8888).
Enter an address above and we look it up against a geolocation database, showing its approximate location, the ISP that owns it, its ASN, timezone and connection details.
How the risk score and suitability ratings work
The risk score reflects how much platforms are likely to trust an IP; lower is cleaner. The main input is network type: names matching hosting providers (AWS, Cogent, and similar) are classified as datacenter IPs, while names matching consumer ISPs (Comcast, China Telecom, and similar) are classified as residential. Datacenter IPs draw more scrutiny because bulk registration and automation mostly originate there.
Suitability converts that score into star ratings for four use cases. TikTok and e-commerce apply the strictest controls, so they tolerate the least; AI services largely run on cloud hosts, so they tolerate datacenter IPs best.
Note that this assessment is derived from ASN and ISP type alone. It cannot see proxy blacklists, actual fraud records or an address's abuse history, so treat it as a guide rather than a verified fraud score.
